IMechE: UK Techincal Visit - Energy conservation

Energy management is an aspect often neglected when considering environmental protection. By implementing energy conservation processes and preventive maintenance this can result in savings in operations costs and increase productivity. Furthermore, this can contribute to a more cost-effective and sustainable industry.

The UK Technical Visit offers an opportunity to participate in site tours at Bombardier and Ratcliffe on Soar Power Station with an evening presentation at Rolls Royce. The site tours will focus on how each industry implement their energy conservation processes and how effective this is – the evening presentation will concentrate on Energy Conservation within the Engineering field.

EXPLORE THE DESIGN, BUILD, OPERATION AND MAINTENANCE OF VEHICLES AT BOMBARDIER

With operations in more than 35 countries, Bombardier Transportation leads the world’s rail equipment manufacturing and servicing industry. The tour will give delegates an insight on industrial design, the assembly of car bodies and testing of trains on site. As well as exploring the production line, services condition monitoring software Orbita will be explained, showing how it improves the management of vehicles, infrastructure maintenance, performance and operation.

SEE HOW ELECTRICITY IS GENERATED AT E.ON’S RATCLIFFE ON SOAR POWER STATION

E.ON UK are the UK’s largest integrated power and gas company - generating and distributing electricity, retailing power and gas.  The tour will give delegates the opportunity to visit one of the UK’s most efficient coal-fired power stations which has a generating capacity of 2000MW. The tour will have a technical bias and provide an opportunity for a question and answer session with the tour guides and members of the operational team.

Powering aircraft from small helicopters and general aviation aircraft, to business jets and the world's largest airliners, Rolls-Royce offers the industry's broadest range of engines. More than 600 airlines rely on Rolls-Royce power, including nine of the world's top ten.

The presentation at Rolls Royce will cover the production facilities of engines and the reduction in the manufacturing processes and energy considerations.

The visit will commence at 09.30 at Derby Railway Station with hired transport taking the group to the two sites and to the evening presentation.  Lunch and refreshments provided throughout the day.

The cost of attending this event is £15.00 plus VAT.
