With transport, and in particular railways, high on the political agenda, the 2010 General Election looks like it will be one of the most exciting for many years. Whichever party assumes power there will be some hard choices to be made as the new government struggles to balance expenditure and income.
Already the following issues are piling up on the in-tray: -
- High speed rail
- Electrification
- Scope and size of Crossrail & Thameslink
- The North / South investment balance
- Future franchising structure
- NR corporate governance
- Rolling stock renewal
- and European liberalisation amongst many others
Election 2010 - the Rail debate will bring together the key front bench representatives from the major parties to discuss whatstrategies their teams will adopt if they are elected to Government.
- The Conservatives will be represented by Stephen Hammond, MP;
- The Liberal Democrats will be represented by Norman Baker, MP;
- The Green Party will be represented by Alan Francis; and
- The Labour Party will be represented by a front bench spokesperson (to be confirmed).
Sponsored by CSRE, the event will take place on Wednesday, 17th March at Central Hall, Westminster, London, from 19.00.
