On Thursday 4th February 2010, Chris Mole MP, Minister for Railways launched a brand new group for railway professionals across all industry disciplines.
The new group, called the Young Railway Professionals, will be open to all operators and engineers and will provide a unique forum where those who deliver today’s railway can network and share experience with their peers in preparation for leading the railway of tomorrow. The Young Railway Professionals will bring together younger members of the Institution of Railway Operators (IRO), The Institution of Mechanical Engineers (IMechE), the Institution of Engineering and Technology (IET), the Institution of Railway Signalling Engineers (IRSE) and the Permanent Way Institution (PWI). Membership of the Young Railway Professionals is automatic with membership of individuals’ respective professional institution.
The new cross discipline group will promote a range of member events throughout the year and present opportunities to share best practice.
Robert Mullen, IRO representative and Chairman of the Young Railway Professionals said: “By bringing together a wide range of railway professionals from differing backgrounds we hope to bring a renewed focus on promoting best-practice so that the railway can meet the needs of passengers both today and tomorrow."
The launch dinner took place on 4th February 2010 at the Institution of Mechanical Engineers, One Birdcage Walk, Westminster, London, SW1H 9JJ.
